Skin Allergy Testing – Prick Tests
What is a prick test?
A prick test is a simple and safe procedure that involves:
- Applying various allergen solutions to the inner forearm
- Making a small puncture in the skin surface
- After 15–20 minutes, the doctor evaluates the skin reaction — redness, a bump, or itching indicate a possible allergy
- Results are available immediately after testing
Tested allergens:
- Pollen (grass, tree, weed)
- Dust mites
- Animal dander (cat, dog)
- Molds
- Common food allergens (milk, egg, nuts, wheat, soy, etc.)
Who is suitable for testing?
- Patients with allergic rhinitis, asthma, or conjunctivitis symptoms
- To identify triggers for atopic dermatitis flare-ups
- Suspected food allergy cases
- Unexplained recurrent rashes and itching
Important before coming for a prick test:
- Antihistamines should be stopped at least 3–7 days before testing (depending on the medication — consult your doctor)
- Testing is not performed during active dermatitis at the test site
- Prior appointment and consultation are required
Results and further treatment
Test results are available during the consultation. If needed, patients will be referred for blood tests, further examinations, and an individualized treatment and allergen avoidance plan will be created.
